A manufacturer of water-soluble fertilizers required a custom discharge solution for their 1000L batch mixer. Ammonium nitrate is notorious for its tendency to petrify and agglomerate, often leading to blockages or material “hang-up” at the mixer outlet. The challenge was to design a conveyor that could ensure 100% discharge from the mixer while matching the specific 8 t/h speed of a downstream semi-automatic packaging line.

The Solution: Open-Top U-Trough Auger with Anti-Agglomeration Design
We engineered a Bespoke Trough Auger specifically designed to interface with the batch mixer’s hopper:

- Maximised Inlet Geometry: The trough was designed with an extra-wide, open-top cross-section. This ensures that the mixer is completely emptied, preventing cross-contamination between batches and stopping petrified lumps from bridging at the intake.
- Synchronised Throughput: To match the capacity of the packaging machine, the auger operates at a steady 50 rpm. This delivers a consistent 8 tonnes per hour, ensuring the packaging line is never starved or overwhelmed.
- Ammonium Nitrate Compatibility: The robust construction is designed to withstand the corrosive and abrasive nature of water-soluble chemical salts, maintaining smooth operation even with hygroscopic materials.

The Result: Seamless Mix-to-Pack Automation
The custom-fit auger successfully eliminated manual intervention at the mixer outlet. By providing a wide-mouth intake and a synchronized flow rate, the plant achieved a reliable, automated transition from blending to final packaging with zero material residue.
