The Challenge: Removing Light Contaminants from Irrigation Hose Regrind
A manufacturer of plastic irrigation hoses faced a significant hurdle in their recycling line: the presence of “fluff” (light fibrous impurities) in the crushed scrap. This contamination prevented the material from being re-extruded into new hoses. Standard screening was ineffective because the fluff and the rigid plastic had similar dimensions but different densities, requiring a specialized R&D solution to achieve a clean, reusable product.

The Solution: Integrated Vibratory & Air Aspiration System
We developed a Bespoke Air Separator Screen that utilizes “density-based” classification to reclaim high-value plastic:
  • Vibratory Fluidization: The system features a high-frequency imbalanced motor vibrator. This keeps the material in constant motion (fluidization) on the screen deck, ensuring that the light fluff is continuously lifted to the surface.
  • Precision Air Classification: An integrated high-velocity extraction fan creates a controlled air current across the vibrating bed. This “aspiration” effect sucks the lighter fluff particles away while the heavier, clean plastic pellets continue to the discharge outlet.
  • R&D Engineering: As a custom-developed system, the airflow and vibration frequencies are adjustable, allowing the plant to fine-tune the separation efficiency based on the specific grade of hose being recycled.

The Result: 100% Reusable Plastic Regrind
The air separator transformed the recycling line from a waste generator into a closed-loop system. By effectively removing the fluff, the manufacturer successfully reintegrated the reclaimed plastic back into their production line, significantly reducing raw material costs and environmental impact.
