The Challenge: Precision Reworking of Bakery Scrap
A high-volume pastry mix and confectionery dough manufacturer required a specialized solution to reclaim broken biscuits. The objective was to “down-size” the cookies to a very specific grain size for reuse in secondary recipes. The process was highly sensitive: the material had to be crushed into uniform granules without being “over-milled” into unusable dust. Standard grinders failed to maintain this delicate balance, either leaving pieces too large or creating too much fine powder.

The Solution: Twin-Shaft Granulation with Closed-Loop Screening
We engineered a Bespoke Stainless Steel Shredder that combines gentle shearing with an automated classification loop:
  • Dual-Shaft Shearing: Unlike high-speed hammer mills, the twin-shaft shredder uses slow-speed, high-torque shearing. This minimizes friction and impact, significantly reducing the generation of unwanted dust and fines.
  • Integrated Vibratory Classification: A vibrating sieve is mounted directly at the shredder outlet. This serves two critical functions:
    1. Oversize Recovery: Any pieces larger than the target grain size are automatically captured and fed back into the shredder for re-processing.
    2. Dust Extraction: Fine powder is separated and removed, ensuring only premium-grade cookie granules reach the final collection point.
  • Hygienic Reworking: Built from food-grade stainless steel, the system allows the plant to safely re-integrate production scrap back into their “mix” without compromising quality or food safety.
