The Challenge: Efficient Size Reduction of Large-Diameter Straw Bales
A biodiesel production facility required a high-capacity solution to down-size Φ1500mm round straw bales for use as biofuel feedstock. The raw bales, often tightly bound and difficult to disintegrate, needed to be processed into uniform fragments to ensure efficient chemical reaction or combustion. The system had to handle the manual removal of netting while providing a continuous, automated feed to the crushing chamber to prevent downtime.

The Solution: High-Torque Bale Processor with Integrated Agitator
We engineered a specialized Industrial Hammer Mill specifically designed for large-scale agricultural biomass:
  • High-Volume Intake Hopper: The system features a massive hopper designed to accommodate Φ1500mm bales. To ensure a steady flow of material, we integrated a high-torque agitator system at the base of the hopper. This “bridge-breaker” prevents straw from clogging and ensures the hammer mill is always optimally fed.
  • High-Velocity Size Reduction: The heavy-duty hammers rapidly shear the straw stalks into a fine, consistent fraction. The high-speed rotation creates a natural air-stream that ejects the processed straw 3–4 metres directly into storage containers or open Bulk Bags (FIBCs/Tonne Bags).
  • Robust Biomass Design: Every component is built to withstand the abrasive nature of dry straw, ensuring the biodiesel plant can maintain high-volume biomass feedstock production with minimal maintenance.
