High-Performance Compression Couplings for Pneumatic Handling

BritSOLIDS provides a comprehensive range of Industrial Pipe Couplings specifically engineered for the demands of pneumatic conveying and vacuum systems. Whether you are transporting abrasive granules or fine food-grade powders, our couplings ensure a leak-proof, high-integrity connection across your entire pipework network.
.
Engineering Precision for Bulk Solids
In Pneumatic Conveying Systems, the choice of coupling is critical. Standard pipe joiners often fail under the constant vibration and pressure fluctuations of dilute-phase or dense-phase handling. Our Compression Couplings are designed to maintain a perfect seal while allowing for the natural thermal expansion of stainless steel or aluminium piping.
  • Materials: Available in Galvanised Steel, AISI 304 and 316L Stainless Steel for maximum corrosion resistance.
  • Gasket Options: We offer black SBR, white NBR (Food Grade), and Silicone gaskets to suit your specific chemical and temperature requirements.
  • Pressure Ratings: Engineered to perform reliably in both positive pressure and vacuum environments.

EURAC H Series: Technical Selection Guide

The EURAC H Series is the industry standard for high-pressure pneumatic conveying and vacuum systems. These couplings feature a robust 3-bolt or 4-bolt design (depending on diameter) and an integrated 304 stainless steel skin, making them ideal for the most demanding bulk handling environments.

Why UK Engineers Specify EURAC Series

When managing Pneumatic Handling Systems, the integrity of the pipe joint is paramount. The EURAC Series provides several technical advantages over lighter alternatives:
  1. Uniform Pressure Distribution: The multi-bolt compression system ensures the gasket exerts equal force around the entire circumference of the pipe, preventing “blow-outs” in high-pressure lines.
  2. Vacuum Integrity: Specially designed for high-vacuum applications where air-ingress can contaminate sensitive food or chemical powders.
  3. Conductivity as Standard: Every EURAC Series coupling can be supplied with a stainless steel conductivity strip (earth strip) to meet ATEX safety requirements for static dissipation.
  4. Gasket Resilience: Available in Black SBR (-30°C to +80°C) or White Food-Grade NBR (FDA compliant) for hygiene-critical sectors.

Technical FAQ: EURAC Series Installation

Q: Can EURAC Series couplings be used on suction lines?
A: Yes. Their rigid outer shell and high-compression gaskets make them excellent for vacuum (suction) lines, preventing the “collapsing” effect often seen in lower-quality couplings.
Q: Are they suitable for stainless steel and aluminium pipes?
A: Absolutely. They are compatible with all standard metal piping used in UK bulk handling. For aluminium pipes, ensure the earth strip is correctly positioned to maintain electrical continuity.
Q: What is the maximum pressure for the H Series?
A: While performance varies by diameter and gasket type, the H Series is generally rated for pressures up to 10 Bar (145 PSI), making it a “heavy-duty” choice for dense-phase conveying.

Compression Couplings: Gasket Material Selection Guide

In pneumatic conveying and bulk handling, the gasket is the “working” part of the coupling. Environmental factors such as temperature, chemical reactivity, and oil content dictate which material UK engineers should specify.
Gasket Material Colour Temp Range Best For Industry Suitability
Black SBR Black -30°C to +80°C Non-oily powders, grains, & minerals. General Industrial / Construction
White NBR White -25°C to +110°C Oily/fatty foods, chemicals, & seeds. Food Grade / Pharma (FDA)
Silicone Translucent -60°C to +200°C High-temperature process lines. Specialist Chemical / Bakery
Viton (FKM) Green/Black -20°C to +250°C Highly aggressive chemicals & acids. Petrochemical / High-Heat

Which Gasket Does Your Pneumatic Handling Process Require?

1. Black SBR (Styrene-Butadiene Rubber)
This is the “standard” gasket for most Compression Couplings for Pneumatic Handling. It offers excellent abrasion resistance against hard minerals, cement, and dry grains.
  • Warning: Do not use with hydrocarbons or oily food products, as the rubber will swell and lose its seal.
2. White NBR (Nitrile Rubber) – Food Grade
If you are conveying flour, sugar, animal feed, or oily seeds (like rapeseed), White NBR is mandatory. It is resistant to fats and oils and meets the hygiene requirements for the UK food and beverage sector.
  • Key Benefit: It leaves no marks or “black-speck” contamination in white powders.
3. Silicone (VMQ)
For extreme temperature fluctuations, such as post-dryer conveying or steam-cleaned lines, Silicone gaskets provide the necessary flexibility. They remain pliable at sub-zero temperatures and stable up to 200°C.
4. Viton (FKM) – High Performance
Used in specialized chemical plants where the gasket must withstand corrosive vapours or extreme thermal stress. It is the most “rugged” option for compression couplings but carries a higher price point.

Technical Tip: The Role of the Earth Strip
Regardless of the gasket material, all Pneumatic Conveying Couplings used in ATEX zones should be fitted with a Stainless Steel Conductivity Strip. This strip bypasses the non-conductive rubber gasket to ensure a safe electrical path between pipe sections, preventing static discharge.
