The Challenge: Automated Bag Breaking Without Damaging Recyclables
A municipal waste sorting and recycling facility required a high-performance front-end solution to prepare household waste for RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel) production. The primary challenge was to “liberate” the contents of 50-litre waste bags without the aggressive action of a traditional shredder. To ensure high-quality downstream sorting, the Bag Breaker needed to tear plastic sacks effectively while leaving plastic bottles, Tetra Pak cartons, and other packaging intact for automated optical or manual separation.

The Solution: Precision Bag Splitter with Integrated Metering Conveyor
We engineered a specialized Bag Ripper designed for “gentle liberation” of the waste stream:
  • Non-Destructive Tearing Technology: Unlike a shredder that reduces volume through cutting, our Bag Splitter uses specialized teeth and counter-combs to stretch and rupture 50L bags. This allows the contents to spill out naturally, ensuring that containers retain their shape for high-efficiency NIR (Near-Infrared) sorting.
  • Integrated Belt Conveyor: To provide a consistent, metered flow to the next processing stage, the unit features an integrated belt conveyor. This eliminates material surges, ensuring that downstream trommels and separators operate at peak efficiency.
  • Optimised RDF Feedstock: By acting as a primary Bag Breaker, the system allows the plant to effectively isolate the combustible fraction early in the process, resulting in a higher-calorific Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) product.
