Magnetic Separation Belt Conveyor for Ferrous Recovery in Light Bulb Recycling

Magnetic Separation Belt Conveyor for Ferrous Recovery in Light Bulb Recycling

.
The Challenge: Automating Metal Extraction from Shredded Glass
A specialised WEEE recycling facility required an automated solution to extract ferrous metal components from crushed light bulbs. After the initial shredding phase, the material stream consists of a high-volume mix of glass cullet, plastics, and various metal filaments. Manual separation is inefficient and hazardous; the plant needed a continuous, “self-cleaning” method to isolate ferrous scraps from non-magnetic glass and aluminium.
.
The Solution: Integrated Magnetic Head Pulley Conveyor
We engineered a high-performance Magnetic Separation Belt designed for the rigorous environment of glass recycling:
  • Magnetic Drive Roller Technology: Unlike standard belts, the drive roller of this conveyor is a high-intensity magnetic pulley. As the shredded material reaches the end of the belt, non-ferrous glass and plastics fall off via gravity.
  • Automatic Ferrous Discharge: Ferrous metal pieces are attracted by the magnetic field and held against the belt. They are carried around the underside of the roller and released only once they move out of the magnetic zone, allowing for a completely separate and clean collection stream.
  • Durable Belt Construction: To handle the abrasive nature of shredded glass, the belt material was selected for its high puncture and wear resistance, ensuring long-term reliability in a heavy-duty recycling environment.
.
The Result: High-Purity Material Streams
The system delivers a continuous, hands-free separation process. By effectively isolating the ferrous metals, the facility significantly increased the value of its recycled glass (cullet) and captured 100% of the high-value metal scrap, optimizing the ROI of the light bulb recycling line.
