RDF Waste-to-Energy: Advanced Combustion & R&D Pilot Plant

RDF Waste-to-Energy: Advanced Combustion & R&D Pilot Plant

.

The Challenge: Engineering the Future of Sustainable RDF Combustion
The production and utilization of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) is a cornerstone of the circular economy. The challenge for this project was to bridge the gap between academic theory and industrial reality. In partnership with a renowned Technical UniversityBritSOLIDS was tasked with engineering an experimental combustion tower capable of testing fuel efficiency, additive performance, and drying rates under extreme thermal conditions.
.
Our Solution: High-Temperature Experimental Combustion Tower
BritSOLIDS designed and manufactured a sophisticated pilot unit that serves as a benchmark for Waste-to-Energy (EfW) research:
  • Integrated Receiving & Storage Silo: A specialized intake system designed to handle various RDF fractions, ensuring a consistent feed for experimental testing.
  • High-Temperature Dosing Technology: At the heart of the system is a precision dosing unit equipped with high-temperature rotary valves. These specialized components are engineered to maintain a 100% airtight seal at operating temperatures of up to 300°C.
  • Advanced Combustion Chamber: A robust thermal chamber designed for the controlled incineration of RDF, allowing researchers to analyze calorific output and emission profiles.
  • Additive Dosing & Testing Facility: To optimize the combustion process, the tower includes an automated additive dosing system and a specialized drying testing facility to study the impact of moisture content on RDF efficiency.
.
The Result: Data-Driven Innovation in Waste Recovery
This collaboration between BritSOLIDS and academia provides:
  • Academic Excellence: A world-class testing environment for developing the next generation of RDF technologies.
  • Proven Thermal Engineering: Successful operation of mechanical components in extreme 300°C environments.
  • Scalable Insights: Real-world data that allows for the scaling of experimental RDF combustion into full-sized industrial power plants.
