The Challenge: Efficient Transport of Abrasive Bag-Filter Dust
A major construction material quarry required a reliable solution to move lime dust collected from their central bag filter system. The material needed to be transported 12 metres to a main conveyor belt. Because lime dust is abrasive and fine, the system required a dust-tight, heavy-duty solution that could handle consistent flow without mechanical fatigue.

The Solution: Synchronized Dual Trough Screw Conveyors
We engineered a series of two heavy-duty U-Trough Augers designed for the rugged conditions of a quarry environment:
  • Differential Speed Synchronisation: To ensure a steady material flow and prevent bottlenecks at the transfer point, the first screw operates at 60 rpm, while the second unit is geared to 80 rpm. This speed differential ensures the second auger “clears” the material faster than it arrives.
  • Over-Engineered Performance: While the client’s operational requirement was 2 tonnes per hour, we designed the system with a massive factor of safety. The augers have a peak capacity of 6 ton/h, allowing the plant to handle surges in dust collection without overflowing.
  • Industrial Gearmotors: High-torque drives were selected to ensure the screws could restart under load, a common challenge in mineral processing sites.

The Result: Zero-Leakage Dust Transfer
The enclosed trough design successfully eliminated dust emissions during transport, protecting the local environment and ensuring 100% of the collected lime is moved to the final conveyor. The system’s “over-capacity” design provides the quarry with future-proof reliability for high-volume production days.
